Hayden Weighs Growing Renewal District

The City Council of Hayden denied a zone map amendment that would have allowed the development of a new subdivision at Dakota Avenue and Ramsey Road.

The Kerr family, the property owner, wanted to develop the land as an extension of the Moonridge Acres housing development. Council members cited public concerns about the impact of new homes on traffic and their own experience with the Ramsey Road and Hayden Avenue intersection near the proposed development. Jeremie Terzulli, representing Olson Engineering, requested a zone map amendment from suburban-residential to mixed-residential.

Moonridge is a ten-year-old development of 33 houses and expanding it would connect Hubble Street to Hayden Avenue for alternate exit and emergency services.

The request to change the zone to mixed-residential would have allowed up to four homes per acre instead of the current two units per acre. There are plans in process to improve the Hayden and Ramsey intersection but with no date set.

Terzulli and the Kerr family have the option to request a reconsideration or file for a petition for judicial review.
