North Idaho College (NIC) has been given a “show cause” letter from its accrediting organization, the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). The letter states that the NIC Board of Trustees has not shown enough responsiveness to previous action by NWCCU and is putting the college in jeopardy. NIC has been given until March 13th to submit a report explaining why its accreditation should not be withdrawn.
A “show cause” action requires the institution to present evidence that it has made necessary improvements to meets their Standards for Accreditation.
A peer review team will visit NIC on April 17th and 18th to verify the information in the “show cause” report, and the institution may be required to appear before the Commission to consider the status of its accreditation. The “show cause” report also requires a plan to be submitted that outlines steps the institution will take to remediate perceived violations against NWCCU’s Standards of Accreditation, Policies, and applicable federal regulations.
