There has been a bit of shock due to a mailer that was sent out by the local Kootenai Republican party. There is an ongoing thread on Nextdoor where people are chiming in with mixed reactions.
There are members of public that believe the scandalizing images & punchy wording is setting a low bar for conservative political messaging.
While supporters of the School Levies are portraying this as a political gaffe.
KCRCC Chairman Brent Regan seems to be taking much of the blame for this, however, decision-making for political mailers mostly rests with various KCRCC subcommittees that dedicate funds, and work with graphic designers to produce materials/literature during elections.
Distribution costs on this scale can be upwards of $15K, but it is unknown how much the KCRCC spent on this mailer.
There have been a variety of campaign materials produced for this levy that took a more nuanced approach towards informing voters. It is unclear why the “drag queen” version of the mailer was used.
