On March 27th, 2023 at approximately 4:00 pm, deputies with the Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), along with the Idaho State Police & Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, responded to the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Cornerstone Drive for a vehicle versus motorcycle collision. First responders arrived within minutes of the reported collision and found a male with major injuries unresponsive in the roadway. Lifesaving efforts were immediately attempted however the male, who was found to be the operator of motorcycle, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male was later identified as 36 year-old Wesley Coffey of Post Falls.

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit responded to the scene and handled the investigation. Prairie Avenue, from Highway 95 to Mineral Drive, was shut down for several hours while the investigation took place but has since been re-opened. The cause of this collision is still under investigation but speed is believed to be a primary factor in addition to alcohol.
