Avondale: Golf Courses Reopen as Summer Approaches

As warmer weather approaches, you can expect to see more and more golfers putting around on their local golf courses. But this year has been a little more of a challenge for some golf course managers.

Jason Jerman is the General Manager at Avondale Golf Club in Hayden. I spoke with him about operating the golf course and what he’s looking forward to for this year’s golfing season.

Jerman told me that Avondale is a non-profit organization, so the company of golf aficionados who run the greens aren’t necessarily looking to make money. However, they are always looking to add new and exciting features and perks for their players.

That might be harder this year, however, since the course wasn’t able to open until Tuesday due to poor weather. Jerman wasn’t too down about the course itself, however, as costs stay low while the course is closed. What Jerman expressed concern over the operation of the restaurant affiliated with the course, however.

Opening day is different every year, depending on the weather, but this is the latest Jerman has seen it since he started working at the course in 2018. Apparently, the course has opened up as early as February and as late as April (this year).
