Monday evening, the CDA school board met to discuss a fee increase for the School Plus program. School Plus is a before and after school program were not increased during Covid, but operators believe that the program should increase fees to pay for increased wages for the 14 full time employees as well as hiring new employees. Additionally, the program is intended to produce revenue for the school district, so the operators of the program are asking for the increase to help the school district bring in more revenue.
Bill Green gave a public comment in which he asked whether the program might cut down on costs instead of raising the fees.
Board member Casey Morrisroe said that he believes the fees should be increased to prevent the program from undercutting the local childcare market. The motion to increase the fee passed unanimously.
During the regular portion of the board meeting, school staff shared about metrics used to measure the students’ success. One slide showed that the district’s average SAT score is 42 points above that national average of 955.
Additionally, the board voted to approve a number of small changes to classes and other school administrative matters.
Trustee Morrisroe expressed uneasiness about the presentation about some of the classes school staff was asking the board to add. He said that he was frustrated that they were presenting the new classes so close to the start of school when students are already signed up for the new classes.
