Ramona Grissom Announces Candidacy for School Board Trustee in Lakeland Joint School District

Rathdrum, ID — Ramona Grissom announces her candidacy for School Board Trustee for Zone 2 in the Lakeland Joint School District in the November 7, 2023, election. Grissom has served on the board for four years and is currently the Vice Chair, looking forward to continuing to serve her community.

As School Board Trustee, Grissom will focus on a few key priorities, one being the responsible use of taxpayer dollars. “It’s important at this junction for this school board to continue its work as we strive to ensure our taxpayer monies are being used wisely and as intended,” Grissom said. She also plans to increase transparency for the community regarding the school budget and use of funds. “We’re being entrusted with a huge responsibility as we make choices to best utilize the funds for our schools most effectively. I want our community to be confident and fully aware of the financial choices of the district,” Grissom said.

To accomplish these items, Grissom will rely on her past four years of experience on the school board, where she has proven in her voting record that she will make thoughtful choices and improve transparency regarding the budget. Her record also shows that she votes in favor of items that will improve the district’s classrooms.

“We have wonderful teachers in our district, and in the last four years, we have made big strides in re-focusing our attention on getting vetted curriculum back in the classrooms and improving the education being offered,” Grissom said. Grissom also helped draft the 2023 policy protecting students’ free speech rights, prohibiting the teaching of gender ideology, and ensuring girls’ sports and spaces are protected. “The pandemic commandeered almost three years of a four-year term, so I look forward to the following four years and what our board could continue to accomplish,” Grissom said. In 2020, Grissom, as Trustee, was a vocal advocate of re-opening the schools without a face mask mandate, which became a district-wide decision supported by the vast majority of parents. She remains steadfastly optimistic about the future of Lakeland and hopes to continue to be an integral part of it.

Grissom has lived in Idaho since 1994, currently residing in Athol with her husband. She has raised her four children in Athol, and they have attended Lakeland Joint School District as full-time students and engaged in the dual enrollment program. “I’ve seen growth and change in the Lakeland Joint School District. As a board member for the last four years, it has been wonderful to have a positive impact on the school district,” Grissom said. Grissom serves as an Administrator overseeing the day-to-day operations of a software company. She holds certifications in technology and administration for business and education.
