POST FALLS — October 22, 2023, at 4:40 p.m., Officer Nicholas McDaniel didn’t respond to a communication from dispatch. Officers were sent to his last known location, where he was discovered unresponsive in the front seat of his patrol vehicle.
After immediately starting CPR, officers alerted Kootenai County Fire and Rescue, who arrived and transported Officer McDaniel to Kootenai Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased — the cause of death determined to be a massive heart attack.
According to the Post Falls Police Department’s press release, Officer McDaniel was 36 years old and a recent hire from Hawaii, where he served as an officer of the peace for 13 years.
Officer McDaniel is survived by his fiancé and children. Details concerning a memorial and celebration of life will come in the near future.
