COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho – In a recent press release, Leslie Duncan announced she will be seeking a seat on the North Idaho College Board of Trustees.

Duncan believes it is a time of critical importance for North Idaho College (NIC) and the surrounding community and is running for the Zone 5 seat which is currently held by Mike Waggoner. The election is county-wide, so Kootenai voters will cast ballots for all three open seats this fall.

Duncan is a long-time resident of North Idaho with a proven track record of community involvement and leadership. She said her decision to run for the NIC Board of Trustees is driven by a love for the community and a firm belief in the power of education to transform lives. As a trustee, she will focus on restoring stability and trust within the college, ensuring that NIC remains an opportunity for students across the region.

“Our community deserves a college that reflects our values and commitment to excellence,” said Duncan. “North Idaho College has faced challenges, but together, we can ensure it emerges stronger and more resilient. I am committed to responsible governance, transparency, and collaboration with all stakeholders to keep NIC on a path of success.”

Duncan addressed the pressing concern of accreditation by stating she “understands the importance of accreditation to NIC’s future and is dedicated to addressing the current issues head-on.”

She said she, “believes that by working collaboratively with faculty, students, and community members, NIC can overcome its challenges and continue to provide quality education for generations to come.”

The release contained the following platform:

  1. Strengthening Leadership and Governance: Implementing best practices for board governance to ensure stability and transparency.
  2. Ensuring Accreditation and Academic Excellence: Prioritizing compliance with accrediting
bodies to secure NIC’s reputation and future.
  3. Fostering Community and Student Success: Enhancing programs and partnerships that benefit students and the community at large.
  4. Promoting Fiscal Responsibility: Managing resources wisely to sustain and grow NIC’s offerings.

She invites the community to join her in the journey to protect and enhance North Idaho
College. “Together, we can create a future where NIC not only survives but thrives again, continuing to be a cornerstone of education and opportunity in North Idaho,” stated Duncan.
