CDA Mayor Calls Citizens to Apply for City Council Seat #4

The City of Coeur d’Alene announces that due to the resignation of Mayor Hammond and the appointment of Woody McEvers as Mayor, Council Seat #4 is now vacant. Mayor McEvers is requesting citizens who are interested in being considered for appointment to Council Seat #4, apply by following and using the directions and information below. The person appointed will serve until the November 4, 2025, election is complete with the newly elected Councilmember sworn in at the January 6, 2026 Council meeting. The person appointed may run in the election to retain their seat.

Duties: The City Council duties are set forth under Idaho Code § 50-701. Council is the legislative authority of the City. The Council’s duties include the annexation of territory into the City by Ordinance, adoption of zoning ordinances to regulate land use, adoption of subdivision ordinances, and approval of agreements and contracts as presented to the Council. Council meetings are held at 6:00 p.m. on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, with a few sub-committee meetings in between Council meeting dates which may be during the day, evenings which can be between 5-7 meetings per month.

Qualifications (Idaho Code § 50-402):

  • The person must be at least 18 years of age.
  • The person must be a U.S. citizen.
  • The person’s primary residence must be within the City of Coeur d’Alene.
  • The person must be registered to vote.
  • The person must be a resident of the City for at least 30 days prior to submitting their information. (They must continue to meet these qualifications throughout their term of office.)

Additional desired qualifications: Experience serving on community commissions such as Planning and Zoning, Parks, etc., active involvement in the community, volunteer activity in the community.

Application Requirements: Contact the City Clerk for an Application. Applications can include a resume, cover letter, and letters of reference from Coeur d’Alene citizens.

Apply by: Friday September 27, 2024, 4:00 p.m. Applications shall be submitted to the City Clerk located at City Hall at 710 E. Mullan Avenue, Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, or by email at Renata@cdaid.org If mailed, the application must be received by the date and time above.
