Press Release

Rathdrum resident runs as an Independent for Sheriff of Kootenai County. Life-long Idahoan Justin Nagel is seeking the position of Sheriff. Nagel aims to leverage his years of experience in Kootenai County during his campaign. He is the only candidate who was born and raised in Kootenai County.

“I’ve spent my adult life investigating organized crime leaders after being a victim. I’ve seen their community grow while law enforcement silences victims like me. I know their leadership and our citizens. Over 26 years, I’ve gained extensive knowledge about law enforcement agencies, the Sheriff position, internal practices, law, constitutional rights, and local law enforcement’s activities.”

Nagel has identified several weaknesses within the Office. He notes that other candidates lack an understanding of community issues, such as altered testimony at Kootenai County Court and the termination of a Captain for failing to provide records to the ATF. These problems expose significant flaws in our Justice System. Furthermore, our government-sanctioned surveillance cameras monitor us while asserting that integrity shields us from abuses of power. There is a troubling refusal to provide evidence to accused individuals in response to information requests, coupled with a lack of confidence in fair and impartial recruitment and hiring practices for merit position jobs, as well as officers’ unwillingness to accept complaints from certain citizens. Records indicate a pattern of negligence and misconduct. I know what my fellow citizens want, but what they need, is information. I also know I can deliver the changes we need to have a healthy relationship with our law enforcement community.

“Knowing the dangers of exposing corrupt governments, I took precautions to protect myself. First, I submit information to federal agencies and retain it in my Federal File for access after investigations or my death. As the saying goes, you can hide in the light or dark. Second, from 2009 to 2014, I purchased over 17,000 Bitcoin (BTC) on Coinbase worth about $1.1 billion at $65,000 each to reclaim markets invaded by organized crime. Third, I’m recruiting citizens to fight public corruption.”

Nagel believes that his message of accountability and termination will resonate with many residents who have been harassed, abused, or ignored by their law enforcement for decades. His mission is to run a Sheriff’s Department that puts the community’s needs first.

When asked what qualifies him for the position of Sheriff, he responds, “I have been fortunate to be surrounded by remarkable individuals – those with strong minds and compassionate heart – who inspire me daily to serve our community more effectively. While I can achieve my goals independently, a strong community is essential in combating corruption and establishing a long-term standard for public servants. My experiences, coupled with my unwavering commitment to justice, equitable treatment, and the vision of a safer, better Kootenai County, will empower me to provide exceptional leadership for the public as Sheriff.”
