Bridge Repairs Start in CDA, More Planned for North Idaho Before Winter

Press Release from Idaho Transportation Department

COEUR d’ALENE, Idaho — Starting Monday, October 21 from 7 p.m. until midnight, all lanes of the Fourth Street Bridge over Interstate 90 will be closed as crews work to repair joints and perform maintenance on the structure ahead of winter. Northbound traffic will be detoured on I-90 to 15th Street or E. Hattie Avenue. Southbound traffic will be detoured on I-90 to U.S. Highway 95.

This is part of a larger project to address repairs on several bridges on or across state highways in the Panhandle. These repairs will not only extend the life of the structures, but also make the highways safer for drivers as winter approaches.

All work is expected to be completed by early November. Work on individual bridges will last anywhere between two to six days before crews can move to the next location. Multiple crews will be working simultaneously to complete this work as quickly as possible.

The schedule below is a tentative outline of the locations work will occur but is subject to change due to a variety of factors like weather or material sourcing.

  • SH-200 over the railroad tracks in Ponderay
  • I-90 over the South Fork of the Coeur d’Alene River near Wallace
  • I-90 over Copper Street in Mullan
  • US-95 over SH-54 on both the northbound and southbound lanes
  • SH-97 over I-90 near Wolf Lodge
  • Seltice Way Bridge over I-90 in Post Falls
  • Idaho Road over I-90 in Post Falls

While crews work to repair the bridges, drivers should expect single lane closures, reduced speeds, and flagging through the work zones.

As always, updated work zone information and traffic impacts are available through the Idaho 511 system either by phone, online, or through the app.
