At this point, one wonders why we should vote at all. Even when conservatives win, the left-leaning factions weaponize everything to wreak havoc and destroy in order to regain control. This is a culture clash between the right-leaning MAGA Republicans and the left-leaning educators and Democrat-voting political activists.
Editorial
Due to the blitz of articles and soundbites coming from corporate media and Democrat-founded activist groups like SaveNic Inc., we have been led to believe the accreditation at North Idaho College (NIC) is “at risk.”
But the college has good operations, is financially sound, and the trade programs (which are the bread and butter of a community college) are not affected by accreditation. So what’s the problem?
On October 14-15, the Northwest Commission on Community Colleges and Universities (NWCCU) based out of Seattle, Washington, sent an evaluation team to the college to evaluate its progress towards re-establishing “good standing.” NWCCU is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit incorporated in Washington that the state of Idaho allows to provide accreditation for secondary schools in Idaho. The NWCCU team that came to NIC was composed of four educators from around the Northwest. They are, of course, all left-leaning educators. This visit was billed as a “peer evaluation,” but that term is misleading. NWCCU is supposed to be all about standards within the classroom and therefore evaluates educators and the administration of courses.
However, at NIC, the accreditation agency has switched to evaluating the governing board. It is not proper to categorize what NWCCU is doing as a “peer evaluation.” This site visit was a review by left-leaning educators on elected trustees who represent the community interests. NWCCU has no standing or vested interest in “representing the community interests,” and its on-going political interference at NIC is both inappropriate and deeply troubling.
NWCCU’s remaining “complaint” is with the governance of the college. This governance is done by a board of elected individuals from our community. Currently, the board majority is made up of three MAGA Republicans, and NWCCU doesn’t like what the majority is doing.
Under Idaho law created under the Idaho Constitution, community colleges have locally elected boards. These boards operate a taxing district and govern the school to implement the will of the local electorate.
In Kootenai County, the current MAGA trustees campaigned and were elected based on making changes at NIC that are more aligned with the conservative community which the college serves – think policies to protect against forced vaccination and mask wearing that the previous NIC administration was inflicting on students. The current MAGA trustees were elected by the conservative-leaning voters of Kootenai County, and they are faithfully representing their constituents. Based on the enrollment numbers and strong financial health of the college, the conservative majority board has been serving all segments of our community very well.
As soon as the MAGA Republicans got a majority, the local Democrats and Blue “Republicans” complained to NWCCU, which instigated the entire accreditation saga.
Now, just days before the election, a new NWCCU report has come out.
The left-leaning educators who control the accrediting Washington-based nonprofit are being used to invalidate the will of the conservative-leaning voters in Kootenai County, and activists like Christa Hazel, the Biden-voting founder of SaveNIC, perpetuate NWCCU’s “concerns” with governance because they want conservatives out and liberals in at NIC.
It is important to note that what is required to return to “good standing” with NWCCU is for NIC to meet all of NWCCU’s standards, not just part of them, and the left-leaning accreditation firm has recently added governance standards which are vague and open to interpretation.
This allows the left-leaning educator accrediting team from NWCCU to evaluate MAGA elected trustees according to their liberal standards, not the standards of the conservative-leaning electorate. The concept behind community colleges having its own locally elected boards is for them to reflect the local values and needs of their local areas. This concept is being violated.
Don’t let the Democrats, left-leaning educators, and Blue “Republicans” out maneuver the MAGA Republicans and invalidate your rights. The conservative-leaning majority has been abused by deception from the “powers that be” for too long in North Idaho. Don’t be deceived. Citizen voters have the power — use it — tell NWCCU to stay in its lane and vote for the candidates who want to retain local control and who reflect your values.
It is up to you, the citizen voter, to be informed in order to determine which of the six candidates seeking a seat on the NIC Board of Trustees reflects your values and wants to retain local control of our community college.
