23-year-old Male Arrested for Shooting at Passing Vehicles on I-90, Idaho State Police Investigating

December 10, 2024 — On December 9, 2024, at approximately 1954 hours (7:54 p.m.), Idaho State Police Troopers, Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputies, and Post Falls Police Officers responded to the area of Interstate 90 near milepost 0 for a Ford pickup truck in the median. It was reported a male who was near the vehicle was shooting towards the interstate as vehicles were driving by.

Early reports by witnesses believed there was a rifle being fired. After troopers, deputies, and officers arrived on scene, Interstate 90 was shut down in both directions for a short period of time to ensure public safety. A short time after, verbal commands were given to the male. The male was subsequently taken into custody without further incident and an investigation began. 

It was discovered the male fired approximately 41 rounds in total. The male identified as Wyatt James Armstrong of Coeur d’Alene, 23, was booked into the Kootenai County Jail for Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm (Felony).  He was cited and released for DUI First Offense, Exhibition or use of a deadly weapon, and Disturbing the Peace.

No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.
