Post Falls Man With Extensive Criminal History Eligible for Parole in Two Years on Aggravated Assault Conviction

Press Release from Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office

Greg Alan Marson, 65, was convicted of Aggravated Assault (with a Deadly Weapon enhancement). The charge stemmed from a threat Marson made to his then girlfriend other on August 12, 2024.

During a verbal altercation, Marson held a handgun to his head and threatened to kill himself while telling his girlfriend, “My blood will be on your hands.” Marson then pointed the handgun at his girlfriend and said, “I am going to shoot you, then I am going to shoot myself.”

Fortunately, Marson did not kill himself or his girlfriend. However, Marson did discharge one round into the ceiling above where his girlfriend was standing before fleeing into Washington on his motorcycle.

Prior to the crime, Marson repositioned a security camera in the bedroom where the incident took place, so the assault was not captured on camera. Responding officers were unable to locate Marson, but a warrant was issued for Marson’s arrest.

Several days later, officers were able to lure Marson back into Idaho where he was arrested on the warrant. Marson was then then indicted on this charge by a grand jury on September 11, 2024.

Aggravated Assault is a felony, punishable by up to 5 years in prison. The Deadly Weapon enhancement allows a Court to extend a sentence by up to 15 years. Marson was sentenced on May 27, 2025, by Senior District Judge Scott Wayman.

Marson has an extensive criminal history, with over a dozen convictions spread out over five decades. Marson’s criminal history includes convictions for trespass, giving false information to law enforcement, theft, grand theft, burglary, DUI, driving without privileges, reckless driving, and controlled substance violations.

At sentencing, the State recommended a 10-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after 7 years.

Senior District Judge Scott Wayman sentenced Marson to a unified 7-year prison sentence with parole eligibility after 2 years.

Prosecuting Attorney Stanley T. Mortensen commends the bravery of the victim in reporting the crime and thanks Criminal Chief Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Laura McClinton for prosecuting the cases and the Post Falls Police Department for investigating the case.
