Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office Highlights Partnership with U.S. Border Patrol

Press Release from Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office is reaffirming its commitment to interagency cooperation following a recent arrest that underscores the importance of partnerships between local law enforcement and Border Patrol.

On June 1, 2025, a KCSO Deputy stopped a vehicle on I-90 near 4th Street. One occupant, Daniel Ochoa, raised suspicion and was later found to be in the country illegally. The vehicle had previously been stopped in Shoshone County before key information was known. Coordination with U.S. Border Patrol confirmed Ochoa’s immigration status.

Border Patrol agents responded to the scene, placed an immigration hold on Ochoa, and began further investigative steps. During their contact, Ochoa admitted to unlawfully entering the United States and is believed to be connected to a homicide and additional serious criminal charges originating outside the state.

“This case is a strong example of the critical importance of communication and collaboration between our office and our Border Patrol partners,” said Sheriff Bob Norris. “By working closely with U.S. Border Patrol, we are able to share intelligence in real time and help ensure that individuals who pose a threat to our communities are identified and held accountable.”

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office remains dedicated to supporting safe communities through proactive policing and robust partnerships with local, state, and federal agencies.
