POST FALLS, Idaho — Earlier today, Kootenai County Fire and Rescue held a joint press conference with the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department to identify the slain firefighters from yesterday’s ambush as Battalion Chief Frank Harwood and Battalion Chief John Morrison.
The fire officials shared an update on the injured Coeur d’Alene Engineer David Tysdal who is currently in critical condition.
Chief Morrison, 52, served with the Coeur d’Alene agency since 1996 and Chief Harwood, 42, served with the Kootenai County agency, as well as the Idaho National Guard, and is survived by his wife and two children.
The community can support the families via the following donation methods:

- Donations can also be made in person at any First Interstate Bank branch — simply ask to contribute to the fund for the fallen firefighters.
- The JW Foundation is also accepting donations and 100% of the proceeds go towards the mission of helping fallen emergency responders families: https://www.jwmfidaho.com/donate-2/

KCFR requests that inquiries related to donations or press statements be sent directly to Director Casey Hamilton at chamilton@kootenaifire.com. Furthermore, the agency “respectfully asks that community members not visit fire stations in person at this time” citing the need for crews to have the space to process and heal from the tragedy.
