“CARTAGO DELENDA EST!”
“Carthage must be destroyed!” So once spoke the Roman Censor, Marcus Portius Cato the Elder, at the conclusion of every public speech. Cato was convinced that the very existence of Rome’s old rival, Carthage, was a mortal threat to Rome’s future existence. Sooner or later, Cato believed, doom would come upon the Roman world from Carthage, unless something definitive was done to settle once-and-for-all which city would rule the Mediterranean world. Then as now, all wars are ultimately fought over anxiety about who will dominate the future.
We will never know if Cato’s fears were justified. Rome finally took Cato’s advice and destroyed the original city of Carthage, sowing its fields with salt. A century after this Third Punic War, Rome built a new city of Carthage several miles up the coast, a Romanized Carthage that was loyal to the Empire until its fall.
The Mullahs who now rule Iran have viewed the United States as their main enemy since before they took power. Since American aid tipped the scales in Israel’s favor in the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel’s enemies have known that they would first have to defeat the United States in order to destroy the Jewish State.
From the time they seized power in 1979, the Iranian theocrats have waged an unofficial but very real war against the United States. Their nearly fifty catalogue of terrorist crime speaks for itself, and is accessible to any objective student of contemporary history.
Iran is behind Israel’s enemies in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria. Iran is chiefly responsible for supporting anti-American and anti-Iraqi terrorism within Iraq. Iran has been instrumental in supporting the Taliban in Afghanistan and is closely allied with Pakistan’s pro Chinese Communist Party military. Iran is the world’s main state sponsor of terror.
Photographs from the Iran Hostage Crisis indicate the possibility that Iran’s onetime puppet President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad may have personally held Americans hostage from 1979 through 1981. For its entire history, Iran’s Islamic Republic has defied the world by continuing to develop atomic weapons. And Iran’s leaders are on the record as expressing impatient anticipation of themselves inducing an apocalypse when God will cleanse the world of all the unfaithful with holy (atomic) fire.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps is perpetuating the Mullahs’ regime of theocratic terror. They cannot be negotiated with, because they have never ever kept to any agreement that they did not see as immediately benefitting them. I therefore do not believe in making any cease-fire agreements with them.
These are simply not people with whom we can peacefully coexist. The aggressive evil of this enemy cannot be ignored. The dangers that they pose cannot be wished away. So long as Iran remains under the control of the Mullahs and the IRGC, there will be no peace worth the name.
The Mullahs and their IRGC enforcers must be overthrown and replaced by a new government that will no longer prey upon their own people, sponsor global Jihad, and threaten the peace of the world.
We must seize this unique historic opportunity. Iran’s Islamic Republic must be conquered and overthrown.
“PERSIS VICENDA EST!”
