As a local publication, we regularly feature writers from our community with diverse perspectives on issues. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the kinds of original writing you can submit to the Kootenai Journal, then use the form below to submit your opinion, letter, or story.
Op-Eds — Opinion Editorials, or guest opinions, are welcome. Submit your 500-600 word piece using the form below. We are looking for pithy, relevant pieces that are artfully written, insightful, and well-reasoned. You must include your name, address, phone number, and credentials.
Letters to the Editor — Letters to the Editor (LTE) are welcome on topics of interest to our readership. They should be no longer than 350 words, and include the author’s full name, phone number, and email address to be considered for publication. Letters may be edited by Kootenai Journal staff.
Corrections — Select this option if you believe there is an error in publication.
Lifestyle — If there is a unique and captivating story you think the Kootenai Journal’s readership would enjoy, select this option to give our team a story tip. Areas of interest include: high school senior awards or nominations, extraordinary stories of heroism, art exhibits, musical productions, or stories that share the life of your great-grandparents and The American Family. They should be 650-850 words, and include the author’s full name, phone number, city, and email address to be considered for publication. The Kootenai Journal may edit for publication.
Book Reviews — Submissions should be no longer than 600 words and must include the full title, full name of the author, publication date, publication house, and edition. Reviews of classics and current mandatory books from local schools will be given preference. Please include name, phone number, and email.
Exclusive Full Publication — Your submission will be more attractive for publication if you give the Kootenai Journal exclusive use of the full publication. This means you will not submit the same, or materially similar, piece to any other publication.
Non-exclusive Full Publication — Your submission allows for full publication, and you reserve the right to submit to other publications.
Non-exclusive Partial Publication — Your submission allows for partial publication, and you reserve the right to submit to other publications.
