Monday Sheriff’s Blotter: Man Tries to Take Family to Heaven

The Kootenai County Sheriff’s Office handled various issues yesterday. The full release can be seen below. These are some of the top incidents:

  • A man reportedly threatened to shoot speeders in Hayden.
  • A man was trying to lure his family into the woods so he could take them to heaven.

Notable calls for the day!!!

In addition to the notable calls, we are going to add the total number of Phone calls the Consolidated Central Dispatch Center (Central) took in for the day, the number of 911 phone calls and the total number of calls dispatched, which include Fire, Med and Law Enforcement Calls. The Dispatch Center is responsible for serving 14 fire, medical and law enforcement agencies throughout the county.

Total Phone Calls— 200 (These are non-emergency phone calls)

Total 911 Phone Calls— 238 (These are emergency calls)

Total calls dispatched— 367 (These represent every call entered into our system, which includes self-initiated activity from the officers and other first responders)

Day Shift handled the following notable calls: Deputies assisted Rec. Safety Deputies with a missing person from overnight. Two motorcyclists had some mechanical issues and were missing. Search and Rescue, Deputies and the Kootenai County Regional Air Support Unit assisted in locating the individuals.

Deputies assisted Spirit Lake PD with a physical domestic. The male was arrested by Spirit Lake Police.

Deputies assisted Probation with a home visit. Drugs were located and the subject was issued a citation for the drug offense.

A Deputy took a cold assault with a firearm report in Hayden. The R/P advised a male subject came out into the street at 2:30 in the morning with a flashlight and gun and threatened to shoot them if they were speeding. This incident is still under investigation.

Evening Shift handled the following notable calls: Deputies responded to a report of a psychological incident. It was reported a male family member was having an episode and was trying to lure them into the woods to “Take them to heaven”. He also claimed that “God was inside him” and was ordering him to take his family to heaven. Deputies made contact with the male and were able to get him into protective custody. He was taken to KH for treatment.

Deputies handled a non-injury accident at Government Way and Hayden.

Deputies arrested a male for his warrant when they went to serve him some civil papers.

A Deputy arrested a juvenile at JDC when he turned himself in on his active warrant.

Night Shift handled the following notable calls: A Deputy stopped a vehicle at Seltice Way and Corbin Road for a traffic violation. While contacting the driver, another Officer observed drug paraphernalia in plain view. A search was conducted on the vehicle and meth and more paraphernalia was located. The driver was arrested for the drug offenses.

A Deputy was conducting a security check at Higgens Point and observed a suspicious vehicle parked at the location. He contacted the occupants of the vehicle. During the contact, small baggies of meth were located on the ground just outside the vehicle. One of the occupants admitted the drugs were his. He was arrested for the drug offense. During a search of the vehicle, marijuana was located. Another occupant admitted the drugs were his. He was issued a citation for the offense.
