Recently elected Community Library Board Trusses Tim Plass and Tom Hanley promised to shift the direction of the board during their candidacy. Upon their installation, Plass and Hanley made good on that promise, voting to install Rachelle Ottosen, a member of the board and KCRCC approved candidate, as Chairman.

Additionally, the three members voted to install Hanley as the vice chair and Plass as Clerk.

This decision was met by strong opposition from the remaining members—Vanessa Robinson and Katie Blank.

During the meeting, Ottosen said she was hesitant to take the role, but felt compelled to considering the outcome of the last election.

Robinson, another KCRCC approved candidate who was elected with Ottosen, vigorously opposed the change, saying that [other lady] was more qualified and [chairman] didn’t have enough experience on the board. When the time came for Robinson to record her vote, she said “Absolutely not.”

Robinson’s concerns seemed to focus on other members previous comments relating to whom they would support for the various positions. She also expressed that she didn’t believe Ottosen would be capable of being the chair: “I honestly don’t think you’re up for that position. Period.”

Upon request for further comment, Robinson made the following statement: “Like any other board, the CLN trustees had a robust discussion.”

Additionally, the board voted to install Julie Saad as treasurer, even though she is not a member of the board.
