ATLANTA, Georgia – Thousands gathered to welcome President Donald J. Trump to Atlanta just hours before the CNN presidential debate against President Joe Biden moderated by media personalities Dana Bash and Jake Tapper on Thursday, June 27. Biden arrived prior to Trump without fanfare.
Leading into the debate, polls showed over 60 percent of American voters intended to watch the earliest presidential debate in history.
The previous presidential election cycle was still very much in the mix four years later, from Covid-19 to illegal immigration to election interference.
Bash’s ex-husband Jeremy Bash, who is also on the payroll at CNN, was one of the intelligence officers who denied the legitimacy of the Hunter Biden “laptop from hell,” calling it Russian interference. According to Miranda Devine of the New York Post, “one of the dirtiest tricks in electoral history was played on the American people by 51 former intelligence officials, who used the false alarm of ‘Russian interference’ to stop Donald Trump winning a second term as president … The shameful letter was used by Joe Biden three days later, on October 22, to deflect Trump’s attack in their last debate.”
During the October 2020 debate Biden stated, “There are 50 former national intelligence folks who said that what he’s accusing me of is a Russian plan … Four, five former heads of the CIA, both parties, say what he’s saying is a bunch of garbage … You know his character. You know my character. You know my reputation is for honor and telling the truth … The character of the country is on the ballot.”
Today, the political landscape was significantly different. There is now no doubt that Hunter Biden’s laptop is both real and damning, with Biden’s Department of Justice using evidence from the laptop to convict the president’s son of three felonies related to his purchase of a handgun in 2018. There is mounting evidence that federal agencies and the DOJ has allowed the statute of limitations to expire on other serious felonies substantiated by the contents of the laptop, including potential charges for violations of the Federal Agents Registration Act (FARA).
There were no surprises or revelations on policy from either Trump or Biden.
Biden got heated over Roe v. Wade, saying he would reinstate it without articulating how that could be done singlehandedly by the executive branch, while Trump said the country was coming together as the States define their own laws concerning abortion.
Biden defended his administration’s handling of the southern border and over the course of the debate he called Trump a whiner, a child, and a felon. At one point, Biden conceded that there was no inflation at the time he took office. There were several instances of Biden’s cognitive decline on full display, including rambling incoherent statements and mumbling.
Trump slammed Biden over the violence perpetrated by illegals against American citizens and believes there were better things he could be doing than debating Biden. “I wish he was a great president, because I wouldn’t need to be here right now,” stated Trump. “But his policies are so bad, his military policies are insane … we are very, very close to World War III.”
“The whole country is exploding because of you, because people don’t respect you,” Trump told Biden during his final two minutes.
Political analyst Mark Halperin believes there will be loud calamor from Democrats to replace Biden after his wholefully inadequate debate performance.
Politico’s post-debate headline reads, “Biden bombs, Trump pounces.”
Former presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson reacted to the debate on Newsmax by saying Biden’s performance was “an embarassment.”
