A Time for Humility and Unity

Politics & Common Sense — Column by John Spencer

As we mark the conservative victory in this presidential election, there is a profound sense of relief and quiet pride among us. It’s been a challenging journey — one won through steadfast dedication, resilience, and an enduring faith in our principles. Yet, at this pivotal moment, we are called to greet our success with humility and grace, heeding the wisdom in Proverbs.

Do not gloat when your enemy falls; when they stumble, do not let your heart rejoice.

Proverbs 24:17 (NIV)

This triumph extends beyond mere politics. It is a chance to reaffirm values that transcend party lines: integrity, responsibility, and respect. Our behavior now will reflect not only on our political ideals, but on our character as a community and a people of faith. Even as we celebrate, we must remain mindful that our role as leaders is to serve not dominate.

However, ‘change’ has been mandated and bringing our nation back to exceptionalism should be our goal.

Recent months have been rife with division, frustration, and the sting of personal attacks. Many of us have felt the weight of criticism. True victory is not about defeating others; it is about building a country in which all can find a sense of belonging and purpose.

We have been given a mandate to change the direction of our country. Our task now is to fulfill that mandate and, to the best of our ability, represent all of America and demonstrate that our success does not mean another’s defeat.

This new task will not be an easy one.

Conservatives have been the subject of unwarranted ridiculous attacks, lies, and vicious statements. Our proponents and candidates have had to endure the lawfare assaults led by incumbents, media, and agitators. The exposure of government agencies that shredded our Constitution was an eye opener for those who were believers in fair and honest governments. Our eyes are now open to the changes that must be made. More revelations are sure to come.

In my opinion, leading by example requires unwavering humility and a steadfast commitment to the core values of faith, family, and freedom. This is our opportunity to rise above the discord that has defined these past several years and set a higher standard of leadership. By choosing to act with integrity and grace, we demonstrate the honor and respect we seek to cultivate in our nation. Let our leadership inspire unity and embody the principles that uplift and strengthen every member of our community.

Our nation, now under the leadership of President Donald Trump, his staff, and Congress, stands poised to implement changes that seek a return to the enduring principles laid down by our Founding Fathers. This moment presents a rare opportunity to reinvigorate our commitment to foundational values — such as liberty, personal responsibility, limited government, and a dedication to the common good.

Let us remember that our mission is far larger than a single victory. We are called to live out the values we hold dear: to be fair, patient, and humble, even in times of disagreement.

Our faith offers us guidance. Proverbs warn us against taking joy in another’s misfortune. To live out these teachings in our leadership is to rise above the desire for personal triumph and focus instead on a collective vision for the future.

A collective vision will earn us respect, not through dominance but through the quiet strength of our character. Our work continues — to protect personal freedoms, to support our families, to encourage local businesses, and to preserve the beauty of our shared land. We should approach the future not with a sense of conquest, but with the conviction that we are all part of a shared journey, one in which every voice matters.

In this moment of change, let us walk humbly, but with a steady resolve. May we listen more than we speak, seek understanding over argument, and let our actions reflect the depth of our values. This is our time to not just to lead, but to heal.
