POST FALLS, Idaho — Director Martin Walters oversees the Community Library Network (CLN), the largest library district in Idaho. He graciously agreed to an on-camera interview to discuss the role and duties of a professional librarian, the purpose of libraries, the importance of neutrality, CLN’s Minor Card policy, efforts to create an efficient organizational structure, and the district’s relationship with the Cooperative Information Network.

Kootenai Journal previously interviewed Director Walters last November, roughly two months after he began his duties as director. In the November interview, Walters spoke about his effort to “empower the rediscovery of what a library is for its community” and shared details of a new directive that he had presented to the CLN Board of Trustees on November 21, 2024. The implementation of the directive’s three components—collection development, library layout, and staff responsibility—are currently underway.
The next CLN Board of Trustee business meeting is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. on March 20 at the Post Falls Library.
