Since 1994, Chief McLean has served the City of Rathdrum with unwavering commitment and a passion for law enforcement, after starting as a reserve officer in both Post Falls and Rathdrum in 1991. Her journey in law enforcement spans more than 33 years—a true testament to her dedication and resilience.
From her early days in the Rathdrum Police Department, Chief McLean distinguished herself with excellence, receiving the prestigious Distinguished Service Award within just one year of her employment. Her dedication to community welfare is evident through her role as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Officer and Instructor, where she touched the lives of countless young individuals, instilling values that resonate to this day. Chief McLean’s compassionate service was further recognized with a Certificate of Appreciation during the National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.
Education has always been a cornerstone of Chief McLean’s career. After earning an associate degree in law enforcement in 1992, she continued her professional development by obtaining various Idaho Police Officers Standards and Training (POST) Certificates, culminating in her Executive Certificate in 2024. She completed the Leadership Trilogy from the FBI (Supervisor, Command Institute, and Executive Leadership). Her commitment to professional growth paved the way for her historic appointment in 2016 as Rathdrum’s first female police chief—an achievement that underscores her trailblazing spirit.
Beyond her professional life, Chief McLean is a devoted mother to two children and a pillar in the community she cherishes. Her community service extends to the Shoshone County Sheriff’s office as a reserve officer, VP of the Shoshone Rangers Saddle Club and contributions to the Gondola Evacuation Team in Kellogg. Her leadership was further recognized during her tenure as the region 1 representative on the Idaho Chief of Police Association and as the 2024 Rathdrum Chamber of Commerce Grand Marshal.
As we celebrate Chief McLean’s retirement, we reflect on the significant impact she has had on our community.
