February 13, 2025 — In a proactive effort to reduce expenditures and save County taxpayer dollars, the Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) during the fiscal year 2025 budget deliberations declined to appropriate funds towards the current lease agreement with Lakes Highway District.
The lease required an annual payment of $25,000 for the use of three Highway District properties. The County was providing boat access sites on the Highway District owned properties. This move underscores the BOCC’s commitment to reducing expenditures and ensuring responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. The decision is expected to save County taxpayers more than $250,000 over the next ten years.
