The Kootenai County Prosecutor announced in a release on Thursday that Matthew and Ashley Lipscomb were sentenced to 10 years of prison, with parole eligibility in 3 years after their child was found to be severely malnourished.

The 2.5-years-old child was admitted to Sacred Heart with symptoms including severe malnourishment, heart failure, anemia, and brain injury. According to the prosecutor, the child’s condition was so poor, medical staff were required to save the child’s life. Unfortunately, the child will likely experience side affects for the rest of his life.

An investigation found that the parents were receiving $1,000 in food stamps along with other benefits from Idaho Health & Welfare.

10 Years is the maximum punishment Judge Barbara Duggan could give for this type of crime, which she did, saying the crime committed was both “profound” and “deplorable.”
